We have a credit card dept from 1991 when we lived in Florida(moved from there 1994 to NC). We now live in Ohio (moved here 1999) and a collection company just contacted us trying to collect. They said it wasn't turned over to a collection company till 1995. I thought the statue of limitations for collecting a dept was 7 years. They said because we live in Ohio that limitations is 15 years. Can you tell me if this is correct? Do we have to pay them since it has been over 15 years since original dept and 11 years since it has been turned over? Does it matter what state you live in or what state you lived in when dept occured?
I know this is a bit confussing but I would appreciate all your help.
