I was told if I could pass the CDL B class and drive a school bus, I would be hired since they were so desperate for drivers.- I was under a great deal of stress at the time and explained to the dispatcher that I would need some time in training for the route as well as driving something so large for the first time in my life. She said she understood and would help get me through the so called training period.
I was never properly trained(went to a training class for the state of Texas after driving on a so called temp card for 2.5 months) and I found out the hard way,her way of training was to wait until you made a mistake and "dress you down" in front of the other drivers. When I tried to explain what happened and was willing to take responsibility for the things that I did do and not for the things someone made up, she became very hostile from that point on. She is well aware that I am the last driver to come in because I have more stops(a good 20to30 minutes after all of the other buses have completed their runs)and have asked about taking some of my riders to another bus so that I can finish with the other buses.(I'm also out on my own until I get back to the school. She has already left)
Every time I tell about something being wrong with the bus, she would treat me like an idiot and tell me there was nothing wrong and I would ask the mechanic if it had the problem that I thought and he would say yes and he had fixed it. She would always tell me that the mechanic had looked at whatever the problem was and there was nothing wrong according to him.
Her tone of voice over the mikes on the buses as we go on our routes is very obvious that she prefers the male divers, the honey's to them are very evident. Not that us females would appreciate them.
I feel like one of the other ladies that I have read about as far as going to work and putting up with the constant feeling nothing that you have done is right.
It makes a person,no matter who it is,male or female, very nervous and being nervous with 40 to 60 children on your bus and dealing with noise, driving and delivery is extremely nerve wracking especially with the lack of discipline, lack of support for help with discipline on the bus and then have to be subject to constant prejudice is over whelming most days.
I am a widowed senior citizen(at this time in excellent health) on a small SS check and I need the income as well as the health benefits.
Where do I stand on this problem?
